Sustainable coating solutions

As the construction industry becomes ever more environmentally aware and is looking at ways to slow down the devastating effects that single use plastics are having on our environment, we here at Longhouse Coating have developed an innovative new flooring coating that eliminates the plastic waste associated with peel off flooring systems AND significantly reduce Co2 emissions associated with the manufacture of these products.

EcoProtect/EcoProtect+ is a new eco-friendly floor protection coating for P5 grade chipboard and OSB flooring to enable the construction of a safe slip resistant working platform during the construction process with a 60 day weather resistant guarantee.

The Venue

Sustainabilty

Every year the UK discards over 5 million tonnes of plastic waste, and the construction industry is responsible for a sizeable chunk of this.  It is still the second largest consumer of plastic in the UK – only the packaging industry produces more.

DID YOU KNOW…

  • Plastic can take over 1000 years to degrade (contaminating soil, rivers and oceans in the process).

  • It is estimated that more than five trillion plastic particles are in the world’s oceans. It’s predicted that if nothing changes by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean by weight than the number of fish.

  • Every year 50,000 tonnes of plastic waste is produced by the construction industry.

  • 40% of all plastic waste from UK construction sites is sent straight to landfill.

  • 1/3 of plastic waste used in construction is single use plastic.

To produce 1 tonne of peel off coatings made from polypropolyne/polyethalene film it is estimated 5000kg of CO2 emissions are released in to the atmosphere.

To produce 1 tonne of solvent free UV-cure, only 400kg of CO2 emissions are estimated to be released into the atmosphere

UV-cure material has the potential to save 90% of all CO2 emissions created during the manufacturing process when compared to peel off plastic film

That is why sustainability lies at the heart of our buisness, effecting every level of our operations from waste management to staff training we endeavour to embed our sustainability and environmental ambitions into everything we do.

Longhouse Coating is commited to finding creative solutions to real problems facing businesses right now by reducing Co2 emmssions and single-use plastics because we recognise that environmental excellence is an integral aspect of long-term business success.

Environmental, sustainability and decarbonisation concerns are now front and centre for many across the UK, with government legislation set to come into effect as early as 2025. Longhouse Coating uses existing materials to combine innovative new technology by diversifying our approach to outdated processes, allowing us to offer clients the highest quality product with the lowest environmental impact.

"We endeavour to continue to adapt and maintain a consistent stance on sustainability whilst creating high quality, environmentally friendly products that add value throughout the supply chain"
